Chapter 124: Jin Xuan Goes Rogue
Chapter 124: Jin Xuan Goes Rogue
The sharp, jagged tip of Sha Chen’s spear was pressed firmly against Wan Ning’s throat, causing a single drop of blood to well up and trickle down her mud-caked neck.
"I will not ask twice, you filthy feline," Sha Chen whispered. "Where is Xin Yi?"
Wan Ning swallowed hard, her chest heaving against the crushing weight of the Arctic Wolf’s knee. Genuine fear finally pierced through her jealous delusion. This male wasn’t posturing. He wasn’t playing a dominance game. He was actually going to kill her.
"I—I told you!" Wan Ning choked out, her yellowish eyes darting frantically. "She ran! Into the wilderness! She is fast!"
"Liar!"
Hei Yan blurred forward. The Black Panther Alpha grabbed Wan Ning by her thick, muddy hair and violently yanked her head back. He leaned in, his nose flaring as he took a deep, aggressive breath.
"I smell the lavender," Hei Yan growled. "I smell it on your shoulder. On your hands. Mixed with her fear. You touched her."
"And if you harmed even a single hair on her head," Qing Lin added. His dark green robes fluttered and his eyes were entirely reptilian now.
"I will melt your flesh from your bones and force you to drink your own blood," Qing Lin hissed, his fangs fully descended and dripping clear, sizzling venom onto the dirt.
Jin Xuan stood a few feet away, completely frozen, his shiny white rock slipping from his massive fingers to land in the dust with a dull thud. He had never seen males act like this. To the Lions, females were prizes, yes, but they were easily replaced. These three.....these three looked like their entire world was about to collapse.
"ROAR!"
A sudden, thunderous bellow shattered the tense silence.
The tall elephant grass violently parted, and Chief Jin Hai stormed into the clearing, flanked by twenty massive, heavily scarred lion warriors. They bared their fangs, dropping into aggressive, four-legged crouches.
"Get your hands off my warrior!" Jin Hai bellowed, pointing a massive finger at Sha Chen. "What is the meaning of this?! You come to our camp, and now the Wolf threatens our strongest lioness?!"
The twenty lions growled in unison, a sound that would have made any normal beastman completely surrender.
Sha Chen didn’t even blink. He didn’t lift his knee off Wan Ning’s chest. He simply turned his gaze toward the Lion Chief.
"Your ’strongest lioness’ is a thief and a liar," Sha Chen stated flatly. "She has taken our female."
"What?!" Jin Hai frowned, looking incredibly confused. He looked down at Wan Ning, then at his son. "Jin Xuan! What is this nonsense?"
Jin Xuan pointed an accusatory finger at the lioness on the ground. "Father, she did something bad! She took my tiny female! And now she won’t tell us where she put her!"
"For a weak twig?!" Jin Hai threw his hands up in exasperation. "Wan Ning! Did you take the hairless creature?!"
Wan Ning looked at her Chief, then at the twenty lions backing her up. The presence of her tribe suddenly injected a massive, foolish dose of courage straight into her veins.
She wasn’t alone anymore. She was a Lioness! She didn’t have to fear these outsiders!
A dark, twisted grin slowly spread across Wan Ning’s face. She looked up at the three terrifying Alphas leaning over her, and instead of apologizing, she threw her head back and let out a harsh, manic cackle.
"Hahaha! You are too late!" Wan Ning laughed, her raspy voice echoing through the clearing. "You want to know where she is?! I took her to the Badlands!"
Hei Yan froze. "The Badlands?"
"Yes!" Wan Ning gloated, her eyes wide with cruel madness. "She thought she could come here and steal the Chief’s son with her weird magic! So I took her to the edge of the Scavenger’s Bowl... and I threw her in!"
Total silence fell over the savanna.
Even Chief Jin Hai and the twenty lion warriors stopped growling. Their eyes went wide with shock. The Scavenger’s Bowl? The hyena pit?
"The... the pit?" Jin Xuan whispered, his golden eyes shrinking in horror. "But... she is so small. She doesn’t have claws..."
"She is dead!" Wan Ning cackled, completely failing to read the catastrophic shift in the atmosphere. "The hyenas have already ripped her soft little body to shreds! She is nothing but bones by now! I am the only female—!"
BOOM!
The explosion of raw, terrifying Alpha aura that erupted from the three men was so powerful it literally flattened the grass in a fifty-foot radius.
"NO!" Hei Yan roared.
Before Wan Ning could finish her laugh, Sha Chen casually, brutally kicked her. His heavy boot connected with her ribs with a sickening CRACK.
Wan Ning flew through the air like a discarded ragdoll, soaring backward and slamming so hard into the trunk of a baobab tree that the massive tree actually shook. She slumped into the dirt, completely unconscious before she even landed.
Chief Jin Hai opened his mouth to shout, but the words died in his throat.
A blinding flash of green light completely blinded the lions. When it cleared, a colossal, fifty-foot python was rearing up into the sky. Its massive green scales literally blocked out the setting sun. The snake let out a deafening, earth-shattering hiss that made the twenty lion warriors instantly cower, their primal instincts screaming at them that they were in the presence of a true monster.
"If she has a single scratch on her," Qing Lin’s voice boomed from the giant snake’s jaws, "I will drown this entire savanna in venom!"
Sha Chen didn’t say a single word. The Arctic Wolf’s fingernails elongated into razor-sharp claws.
Hei Yan shifted instantly, his massive black panther form larger and more terrifying than ever before.
Driven entirely by madness and the desperate need to save Xin Yi, they turned into three blurs of lethal, unstoppable speed.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
They tore across the golden plains, moving fast and leaving a trail of kicked-up dust. They flattened grass in their wake, heading straight for the Badlands.
Jin Xuan stood in the clearing, staring at the dust cloud.
He looked down at the shiny white rock sitting in the dirt. He thought about the tiny female who smelled like flowers. He thought about her squishy cheeks, and the way she had bravely hit him with that flat black rock.
The hyenas had her.
"My tiny female," Jin Xuan whispered.
Then, with a furious roar that shook the heavens, the golden Lion Prince exploded into his massive beast form, kicking dirt into the faces of his own tribesmen as he sprinted after the three Alphas.
